The Grand Strand is a seafood hub in South Carolina. However, Horry County recycles fewer oyster shells than any other county in the state. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is working to develop partnerships of all shapes and sizes to increase oyster shell recycling efforts within the Grand Strand.

Find out how SCDNR and its partners encourage you to take the initiative to roast oysters responsibly this oyster season and to educate your neighbors about these ecosystem all-stars!

About the Speaker:

Cody Potvin is a Wildlife Biologist with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources SCORE program, he began his career at SCDNR three years ago and now serves as the Oyster Shell Recycling Coordinator. He oversees restaurant recycling across the entire state with an emphasis on partnerships and volunteer led recycling.

Each year, the SCORE program provides thousands of people with hands-on opportunities to participate in oyster reef and salt marsh restoration. Its success depends on strong community engagement and partnerships at every step to help manage South Carolina’s oyster populations effectively.
