Ignite your senses this November with a hands-on candle-making workshop that blends creativity, culture, and storytelling. Set against the serene backdrop of Brookgreen Gardens, this unique experience invites you to craft your own custom candle while exploring the history and tradition of scent as a form of personal and cultural expression.

  • Discover the art and technique of candle making, from wick setting to wax pouring.

  • Learn about essential oils, fragrance blending, and the roots of scent storytelling—including botanicals inspired by the Gullah Geechee culture.

  • Begin crafting your candle base with guided instruction and a demonstration.

  •  Infuse your candle with custom scents, dried herbs, and embellishments that reflect your story.

By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with more than just a handmade candle—you’ll take home a meaningful memento infused with memory, culture, and intention.

About the Instructor

Jacque Williams is not just an entrepreneur, she is a Gullah Geechee Herbalist, Alchemist, and Cultural Historian. Born and raised in the small community of Midway located outside of the seaport city of Georgetown, SC, Jacque’s roots run deep in the rich traditions of the Gullah Geechee people, who are the direct descendants of West Africans that were brought to the South for the purposes of rice production. Her upbringing with her “Big Mama”, Elizabeth Sumter and Grandmother Myrtle Gathers, immersed her in the healing wisdom passed down from generations. That very same wisdom is what Jacque infuses into her brand Passage Products, creating handcrafted teas and skincare products that are enjoyed by customers all around the world.

Artist Talk: October 11th | 2 PM

The Color of Air showcases landscape paintings by Clay Johnson that capture the quiet drama of trees, light, and atmosphere. Painted often in the early morning, Johnson’s work balances close observation with a sense of timelessness, inviting viewers to slow down and experience the natural world with fresh attention.

About the Artist

South Carolina artist Clay Johnson is a classic landscape painter working primarily in oil. Growing up in the Chicago area, Johnson received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University and then moved east to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. After living and working in Philadelphia for many years, he moved south, and now lives in Conway, near Myrtle Beach, where he continues to paint landscapes throughout the region. His work is widely represented in both private and corporate collections, and a limited number of paintings are available each year for purchase.
