Hooligans and Rice Kings: South Carolina Stories from Research for a Novel with Lindy Carter

In March of 2022, Charleston author Lindy Carter released her latest novel “The Rice Birds.” Set in 1849 in Charleston, the historically accurate book is about an Irish Potato famine survivor who arrives in SC to begin a better life, but she finds prejudice, grueling work, and chaos as the kings of the rice empire call for war. Come and hear some facts she discovered during her research for the novel.
