-September 13 and 27, 2023 “We Wear the Mask” 

Learn about Gullah Geechee culture, history, and beliefs. The resilience and dignity of Gullah Geechee people throughout systems of oppression are explored through excerpts of a short story written and narrated by Ron Daise, cultural interpreter/author/performer. Readings are juxtaposed to stanzas of “We Wear the Mask” by poet Paul Laurence Dunbar.

-October 11 and 25, 2023 “The Gullah-cessities of Life” 

Enjoy excerpts of an original allegorical tale about lowcountry birds. Explore the beliefs, cultural nuances, language, and heritage of the unique Gullah Geechee people. Examine ways that people of all cultures align. Presented by Ron Daise, cultural interpreter/author/performer.

-November 8 and 15, 2023 “Nuggets of Wisdom about S.H.E.”

Learn about Gullah Geechee culture, history, and beliefs as explored in the Seen, Heard, Esteemed: Living History Narratives of Georgetown County, SC Exhibit. Ron Daise, cultural interpreter/author/performer/and exhibit curator will discuss the oral histories, themes, and student research and recordings.
