Abelmoschus manihot is synonymous with Hibiscus manihot. It is native to east Asia.

It is a tall upright shrub that grows about four to seven feet tall by about three feet wide. It is hardy in USDA Zones 8 - 10. It is best grown in full sun.  

Abelmoschus manihot is grown for its attractive flowers that only last a day. Flowers are about five inches wide and are a creamy yellow with a deep red throat. Flowering continues throughout the summer. The foliage is large at about six to eleven inches wide and is palmate with deep lobes, making it resemble a hand. Leaves are green and hairy and can be unpleasant to touch. However, the leaves are edible.
