For many years, the DAR and Brookgreen Gardens have celebrated Constitution Day. This year, the Carolina Gold Chapter and guests will sponsor a parade down Oak Allée, ending at the Constitution Oak.
Brookgreen Gardens is proud to be home to a tree designated by the Bartlett Tree Company as the Constitution Oak. This oak was standing when our ancestors first read the famous preamble, "We the People." This year marks a special celebration on September 17, as many South Carolina chapters of the DAR will host educational activities, refreshments, and fun events.
The parade will begin promptly at 1:30 p.m. with a color guard, fife and drum, including George and Martha Washington. We will proceed to the Constitution Oak at 1:45 p.m., where DAR station tables will be set up.
Refreshments will continue until 4:00 p.m., when the program concludes with the ringing of the bell.
The program is open to all guests with garden admission. Everyone will receive a free Constitution insert.
