Sculptors and others involved in sculpture from around the country gathered at Brookgreen Gardens June 22-24  for the Annual Meeting of the National Sculpture Society.  Attendees kicked off the weekend by watching participating in or watching the Richard McDermott Miller Modeling Competition. Ten sculptors worked on their interpretation of a model seated in the middle their circle.  The artists had total of 4 hours to complete the sculpture, which was then judged by a panel from the NSS.

All of the competitors were superb, but three artists were recognized for their outstanding work, they are:

Zoe Dufour – First Place – Richard McDermott Miller Prize: $3,000 cash award, half page ad in Fine Art Connoisseur ($2,150) and a quarter-page ad in Sculpture Review ($545)

Alejandro Buchner – Second Place – Roger T. Williams Prize: $1,500 cash award

Charlie Mostow – Third Place – Walter & Michael Lantz Prize: $750 cash award

The modeling competitor whose arms and work are pictured in the foreground is Robert Stutler
