Symphyotrichum oblongifolium 'Fanny's Aster' was introduced by Nancy Goodwin, who received it from Ruth Knopf, the head gardener at Boone Hall Plantation in South Carolina. Ruth Knopf received the plant from her maid, Fanny, who had received it from her grandmother.
