Plectranthus fruticosus 'Purple Martin' originated from wild collected seeds of Plectranthus fruticosus ordered by Jenks Farmer from Silverhill Seed in South Africa. This was selected from the other plants for its difference from the species. It was named after the horticulturist Jim Martin.
