The History of Labyrinths, with Laura Rogers Young

If you’re a Brookgreen Gardens regular, you have probably happened upon the impressive labyrinth which fronts the creek. The beautiful setting, stone benches, and gentle breezes make it a wonderful place to pause in your garden strolls.

Have you ever wondered where labyrinths originated or how they were used? What defines a labyrinth, and why would we want to include one as part of Brookgreen Gardens?

Join us in Brookgreen’s Lowcountry Center auditorium for an overview of the labyrinth, which will include some of the history and evolution of these mystical paths and the changing ways people use them in everyday life. The canvas labyrinth acquired by Brookgreen Gardens in 2020 will be used in the session, and a walk to and on the outdoor labyrinth will follow as an option for participants.
