About the Speaker:
Born and raised in Mt. Pleasant, SC, Genya was inspired by her mother, Ms. Elizabeth Stokes, who spent countless hours crafting sweetgrass baskets. While Genya learned the art of basket making, her true passion led her to become a renowned doll artist. As a child, Genya's creativity blossomed as she transformed soda bottles, grass, and old clothes into charming dolls. Today, her work embodies the rich heritage and vibrant spirit of the Gullah Geechee community.
