There is a food crisis looming in the world today due to the increase of population, and the reduction in agricultural resources, including water, fertilizers, and land availability. Controlled Environmental Agriculture (CEA) has been emerging as part of the solution. Join Dr. Gurley in an informative lecture which will include an introduction to aeroponics, hydroponics, and aquaponics as well as a look at the new CEA “farms” that are emerging and selling produce in local grocery stores.
About the Speaker:
Thomas Gurley earned a BA in chemistry from Houghton College and a PhD in chemistry from Case Western Reserve University. He has over 40 years of experience as a research chemist, R&D Director, and Technical Consultant. He has taught chemistry courses and labs at several universities in Ohio and South Carolina. He is currently an adjunct professor at Charleston Souther University, where he has taught a course on Aeroponics since 2018. He published a book, Aeroponic: Growing Vertical in 2020. Dr. Gurley and his wife Jayne live in Mt. Pleasant, SC. They have 3 daughters and 13 grandchildren.
