“Endangered Plants Along the South Carolina Coast” with Ranger Mike Walker of Huntington Beach State Park.

Learn about the trials and tribulations of plant life at the beach! From the long road to recovery for the federally threatened seabeach amaranth, to battling invasive species like beach vitex and phragmites, to restoring wetlands, Ranger Mike Walker will discuss “the Plant Side of things” at Huntington Beach State Park, including the great partnerships that have been formed to carry out this important work.

“The History of Indigo in South Carolina” with Bud Hill and Joe Shaw.

Indigo, a plant that produces a blue dye, was an important part of South Carolina’s 18th Century economy – second only to rice. Let Bud Hill and Joe Shaw lead you down the historical trail of indigo and its usages as a dye.
