Brookgreen in Bloom




A month-long celebration of horticulture and art. Open late until 7:00 p.m. each evening with special programming for the whole family.

All events for Brookgreen in Bloom are from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., unless otherwise stated.

Mondays - Focus on "Hortisculpture" 

Trained docent to give a short talk on the In the Mix, Stickwork sculpture by Patrick Dougherty.

Brookgreen Volunteer, Riley Reynolds will be demonstrating techniques used in building In The Mix at The Visionaries pool.

Tuesdays - Focus on garden demos that you can use at home

April 2 – Kerry Rapp will host an open house and tour of the Doc and Martha Lachicotte Horticulture Complex at Brookgreen Gardens. Meet at the Brookgreen Greenhouse.

April 9 – Cheney Taylor, Brookgreen's staff arborist, will give a tour of Brookgreen's historic trees and plants at the garden. He will also answer questions on tree care. Meet at the Welcome Center.

April 16 - Aquascapes - make your ponds bloom! Jack Houston and Frank Hosier will give a talk on water gardening. Meet at the Welcome Center and walk together to The Visionaries.

April 23 – Container gardening discussion and demonstration by Viki Richardson at the Lowcountry Center Program Shed.

April 30 – Amber Smith will lead a flower arranging workshop at the Lowcountry Center program shed. A spring wreath will be created. The cost of this event is $30 per person. Click here to purchase tickets.

Wednesdays - Focus on Garden Photography

Spring has arrived! Brookgreen is fresh with colorful blooms and beautiful landscapes. Whether you've been photographing for years or are just discovering this art form, join us each Wednesday in April for a Photowalk and learn new tips and techniques.

Professional Photographer Anne Swift Malarich has been photographing Brookgreen Gardens for 24 years. She is eager to share her experience and trade secrets in focused sessions.

April 3 - Visual Expression: Protecting Your Highlights - Dynamic Range
April 10 - Flower/Macro Photography - Learn diferent techniques for photographing flowers and handling different lighting and background situations. Special guest speaker, Terri Eddinger.   This workshop will be held rain or shine. In case of rain, we will move indoors.

April 17 - Low Light Photography
April 24 - Landscape Photography

Meet in front of the Welcome Center at 5:30 p.m. for an hour walk and talk. Free with garden admission.

Also on Wednesdays, Walk with a Tidelands Health Professional 
Meet at the Welcome Center at 5:30 for a brief talk from one of the trainers from HealthPoint followed by a brisk walk around the gardens. We will help you get those steps in!

Wine will be available for purchase near the Diana pool during these outings.  

Thursdays - Walk the main Gardens with a Horticulturist

April 4, 11, 18 - One of Brookgreen’s staff horticulturists will lead visitors on an interpretive tour through the Gardens focusing on different garden themes and plants. These will depart from the Welcome Center.

April 25 – Spring Plantacular Sale Preview!  Plant Sale Preview to showcase plants that will be available at the sale. This preview will take place in the Lowcountry Center Auditorium.

The evening will also include a panel of staff experts who will answer all gardening related questions in an informal, walk up, Q&A session following the Plant Sale Preview.

Fridays -  Focus on edible gardening, crops of historic and native relevance.

A tour of Bethea’s garden, the Gullah Geechee Gaarden, and LCC native plantings, along with a Farm to Table Cooking Demonstration.

Food will be prepared in the garden and visitors will share in a tasting. Recipes will be provided. The fee for this is $30 per person. Click here to purchase tickets. 

Saturdays - Focus on Nature Education for Children. Will take place in the Peace Garden for Children.

Saturday, April 27 - Plantacular Spring Plant Sale! 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Augustus Jenkins Farmer (Jenks) will be discussing his book, "Deep Rooted Wisdom" at 2:00 p.m. in the Lowcountry Center Auditorium. He will be speaking with guests and visitors at the plant sale. No reservations required. 

Sundays - Plein Air painting demonstrations in the gardens.

For their safety and the safety of our animal collection, pets are not allowed, nor can they be left in vehicles inside Brookgreen.
Service animals that have received special training to assist disabled persons are welcome. Animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
