1930s-era Challen Art Case Piano Sale To Benefit Brookgreen Gardens!Jim Calk - Brookgreen Gardens

A beautiful circa 1930-40 parlor grand art case piano, manufactured by Challen Pianos in London, is available for sale at Augustus and Carolina of Georgetown, importers and purveyors of fine art and antiques. The entire proceeds from the sale of this valuable instrument will be donated to Brookgreen Gardens.

This piano was previously owned by Harrod’s of London and likely played in one or more of its stores in the 1930s. The piano was acquired by Augustus and Carolina from a dealer in France and purchased by the current owner for her private residence in Boston in 1998 then in Georgetown in 2001. This rare, one-of-a-kind art case piano is a highly decorative style representing a single artist’s creativity, much as a palate. This instrument is coated in black lacquer and decorated in Japanese-style motif. The piano has recently been refurbished with a new soundboard and plays beautifully.

For additional information on this instrument, please contact Pat Tukey, Vice-President of Development at Brookgreen Gardens (843) 235 6029.
