Friends Of Brookgreen
The Friends of Brookgreen Gardens was founded in 1991 with fifty members “to promote and advance Brookgreen Gardens.” Now with over 100 members, the Friends include men and women who have a special interest and commitment to raising additional resources for Brookgreen Gardens. The group's largest fund raising project is Derby Day in the Gardens on Saturday, May 5, 2012. Two other fund raising events sponsored by the Friends are scheduled for 2012 including The Friends Silent Auction at the Brookgreen Gardens Wine Tasting on June 9, 2012 and a new event - Brew at the Zoo, a craft beer festival at the Lowcountry Zoo on Saturday, October 27, 2012. Proceeds support a number of projects at Brookgreen Gardens including sculpture acquisitions, restoration of the Dogwood Garden, the purchase of a tram to transport Brookgreen visitors, funding for the rice field restoration project, support of the Wall Lowcountry Center, the Lowcountry Trial, the Daffodil Corridor, the new front entrance to the Gardens, and the new Otter Exhibit – River Basin Retreat. Friends of Brookgreen Gardens must be members of the President’s Council, the Chairman’s Council, the Huntington Society or the Atalaya Council. To become a Friend, an individual must be nominated by a member of the Friends and approved by Brookgreen Gardens’ Board of Trustees. For more information please call 843.235.6018.
