Grill Cook

This is a part-time position in the Pavilion Restaurant. One year of experience cooking and food preparation is required.

Manager of Horticulture

This is a full-time year around position with benefits. The Manager of Horticulture is responsible for achieving and maintaining horticultural excellence throughout the garden. Duties include supervising the horticulture staff, scheduling, coaching and training the staff and volunteers. Candidate will support the Vice-President of Horticulture, oversee plant record keeping and labeling of plant collection. Responsibilities also include maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and assisting with special events and public operations. Position requires the ability to work in all types of weather and physically able to lift at least 50 lbs. A Bachelor’s degree in horticulture is preferred, but will consider an Associate degree in horticulture and at least 3 years experience in a management role in the horticulture field.

Assistant Curator of Sculpture

This full-time position duties include handling registration for sculpture classes, maintaining the catalog of the sculpture collection, assisting with gallery exhibits and researching American figurative sculpture. It requires experience working with collections management software, ability to write for publications and to work comfortably with the public, employees and sculptors. A bachelor’s degree in art history or a related field is required. 

Food Service Associates/Wait Staff

Part-time wait staff positions available for the lunch shift. The position requires one year of experience waiting tables and handling cash. The right candidate will have excellent customer service skills and a positive attitude.

Custodian

This is a full time position with benefits. Responsibilities include cleaning, garbage collection, and general custodial duties as assigned. You must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs., climb ladders and work in varied temperatures and weather conditions. A valid SC driver’s license is required as well as the ability to work different shifts including weekends and holidays.

Like a career in horticulture? There are classes offered in the Associate Degree Program in Horticulture through a partnership between Brookgreen Gardens and Horry Georgetown Technical College. The comprehensive curriculum places emphasis on the scientific principles and practical techniques of ornamental horticulture, and courses cover plant biology, soils, plant materials, landscape design and construction, arboriculture, horticultural production systems, integrated pest control, irrigation technologies, native plant ecology and many more. Various classes in the curriculum utilize the facilities of the Low Country Center, the Lachicotte Horticulture Center, the natural areas of the Brookgreen property, and most importantly, the Gardens themselves.
