2010 ANNE EDENS RAINEY MASTER SCULPTOR PROGRAM
Two distinguished artists, Marc Mellon and Simon Kogan, have been selected as the 2010 Rainey Master Sculptors. They will be
artists in residence, will teach sculpture workshops, and will present public programs
at Brookgreen Gardens. Master Sculptors are selected by invitation
each year. The program is supported by a generous gift from
John Rainey in honor of his wife, Anne.
SCULPTORS IN RESIDENCE
Marc Mellon (April 17-May 2, 2010)
Marc Mellon is well known for his portraits busts, commemorative statues, figures in balance and motion exploring the worlds of dance and sport, family groups, medals, and bas-reliefs. His limited edition dance bronzes have been widely exhibited from New York to Tokyo, and uniquely capture the strength and beauty of modern dance. They have served to recognize the achievements of Ms. Agnes de Mille and Ms. Cynthia Gregory. His sports bronzes are widely known, and include works for the NBA, WNBA, NCAA, and NFL. In 2006 he was selected, after a national search, to create the NCAA Centennial Sculpture for the Michael Graves-designed NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. Mellon is President ex-officio of the Artists' Fellowship Inc., a charitable foundation assisting professional fine artists and their families in times of emergency. His works are in numerous collections worldwide, including The National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, The British Museum, The Vatican, and the Chi Mei Museum in Taiwan.

Simon Kogan (October 17-31, 2010)
Simon Kogan was born in Russia and studied under one of that country’s renowned sculptors, Isaac Brodsky. He received his MFA in Moscow before moving to the United States as a young man. Kogan’s work has been featured in exhibitions in the United States, Russia, Spain, and France, and is in private and public collections worldwide. He was commissioned to create Washington State’s World War II Memorial, which was dedicated in 1999. Recent major works include Cezanne for the Granet Museum, Aix-en-Provence, France, and a Holocaust Memorial for Temple Beth Shalom, Spokane, WA.

The National Competition for Figurative Sculpture is sponsored annually by Brookgreen Gardens, Lyme Academy College of the Fine Arts, New York Academy of Art, and the National Sculpture Society.
