Homeschool Explorers Learn while Having Fun
The ten students and parents for the first Homeschool Program of the new school year left with smiles on their faces and increased knowledge. Coordinated by Stephanie Atkinson, Coordinator for Nature Education Development, today’s session informed about the importance of animal coverings. The theme was Furs, Feathers, and Scales. Participants discovered some differences between mammals, birds, and reptiles as they toured the Lowcountry Zoo. And zookeeper volunteer visited the group with the following Animal Ambassadors: a snake, skunk, and screech owl.
Crafts at the end-of-the day included making Alligator Toothpaste, their own clay sculpture, and paper snake swirls and owls. With oversight from six outstanding volunteers and Joyce Cirino, Coordinator for Education Programs, the program generated the following parental comments:
“Great program! Very educational and all ladies were so nice!” and
“Lots of fun and informative. Thanks!”
