Description "John the Baptist Medal" by Michael Lantz

This medal depicts the story of John the Baptist and Salome and represents the New Testament theme of good and evil. The obverse shows John the Baptist baptising Christ in the River Jordan. The ancient-style lettering around the medal reads, "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth". The Reverse depicts Salome carrying the head of John the Baptist as a horse rears on its hind legs. According to the artist, the horse in the background has no significance and was used merely to balance the composition.
