"John Fremont Medal" by Rene Theophile de Quelin
John Fremont/portrait/mature/symbol/California/gold/olive branch/climate/medal
The obverse depicts John Charles Fremont in his early fifties. The reverse shows a winged figure of Victory, a symbol of California. The figure faces the east in order to represent the direction where her poulation originated. In one hand she holds a nugget of gold, in the other an olive branch. To the right and left of her feet are the flowers and fruits which represent the fertility of her climate. |
