Tree Gifting
Tree Gifting Program
Honor a loved one with an everlasting tree at Brookgreen
A new program to enhance Brookgreen’s Arboretum offers gifting opportunities of new and existing trees at the heart of Brookgreen Gardens. Envisioned as part of Brookgreen’s original design in the 1930s, the Arboretum is located between the Huntington Sculpture Gardens and the Wall Lowcountry Center. It is comprised of 100 trees of 40 different species indigenous to Brookgreen’s natural areas and the Southeastern United States.
Brookgreen’s Vice President for Horticulture George Weich has compiled a list of important specimens needed to complete the Arboretum’s unique oak collection. Donors can gift these new trees – among them Chestnut, Chinese Evergreen, Japanese Blue, Shumard, and Willow oaks – for $5,000 each, which includes their planting and maintenance for the life of the trees. In addition, a dozen majestic trees of excellent health already growing the Arboretum – including Laurel, Southern Red, and Swamp Chestnut oaks – can be gifted for $10,000 each. Both new and existing trees may be named in honor or in memory of loved ones. Gift recogni¬tion includes a permanent engraved plaque. Weich says, “I can’t think of a better lasting gift or remembrance than planting a living tree in such a lovingly protected and revered setting as Brookgreen Gardens.” For more information on the Arboretum Gifting Program or memorial/tribute gifts at Brookgreen, please contact Wendy Belser, Manager of Development, at 843-235-6047 or wbelser@brookgreen.org.
