Outstanding Gardening Speakers and Amazing Plant Sale This Spring at Brookgreen!

Exceptional, hard to find  plants for sale at Diggin’ It  the spring garden festival is only surpassed by the line-up of guest lecturers on Saturday and Sunday, April 25 -26 at Brookgreen Gardens!

Saturday, Pam Baggett, author and photographer of !Tropicalismo! Spice up Your Garden with Cannas, Bananas, and 93 Other Eye-Catching Tropical Plants, will talk about Sizzling Plants for Sultry Climates. Bobby Mottern, former Director of Horticulture at Brookgreen and now a landscape architect in North Carolina will provide helpful landscape design ideas that have a minimal effect on the environment.  Carlin Munnerlyn from Clemson University Extension will speak about water-wise gardening.

Sunday, guest speaker Felder Rushing, author of several national award winning gardening books and featured articles in Garden Design, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Better Homes and Gardens, Fine Gardening, Organic Gardening, and National Geographic. He has hosted a television program that was shown across the South, and currently co-hosts a call-in garden program over public radio. Felder uses an offbeat, "down home" approach rife with humorous anecdotes and garden-irreverent metaphors, zany observations, and stunning photography. Bob Polomski, well known Clemson Extension Horticulturist, speaker and garden writer, will inform gardeners on how to survive southern gardening.

Saturday and Sunday there will be gardening demonstrations including Brookgreen’s senior horticulturalist, Kandace Cavins who will give tips on how to make and maintain beautiful hanging plants. Plus for Buddin’ Gardeners there will be activities such as Plant a Seed and Paint a Pot.

During the Plantacular Sale Brookgreen’s professional horticulture staff will be on hand to answer questions, give advice, and assist in plant selections.
