Inlet, SC - Ronald Daise is the
Lifetime Achievement recipient of the S.C. African American Heritage
Commission’s 2008 “Preserving Our Places in History” Award. Daise is Brookgreen Garden’s Vice President
for Creative Education.
It’s an honor to receive this award in recognition of
efforts made to raise awareness of the historical significance and cultural
contributions of Gullah people,” Daise said. “I’m grateful to my colleagues at
Brookgreen Gardens, Helen Benso and Bob Jewell, who deemed me worthy of this
honor and submitted my nomination.”
A native of St. Helena Island and a resident
of Beaufort, Daise also is member of the federal Gullah Geechee Cultural
Heritage Corridor Commission. He
accepted the award at ceremonies in Spartanburg on January 24.

heard about the “Preserving Our Places in History” Awards we knew right away
that Ron Daise would make an excellent Lifetime Achievement nominee,” said Benso, Brookgreen’s Vice

Brookgreen’s President and CEO said, “Ron has spent most of his adult life
communicating and preserving the Gullah
culture. We are very proud to have him recognized by the SC African American
Heritage Commission and very proud him as the Vice-President for Creative
Education at Brookgreen Gardens
Brookgreen Gardens received a certificate as a
Nominee for the “Preserving Our Places in History” Organization Award.
Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark and
