Brookgreen Gardens Observes Black History Month with Special Program and Lunch !

Murrells Inlet, SC- In observance of Black History Month, Ron Daise  Brookgreen Gardens’ Vice- President for Creative Education,  will present O, Freedom Ova Me! at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, in the E. Craig Wall, Jr. Lowcountry Center Auditorium. The program will include songs and readings commemorating the 200-year anniversary of the abolition of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.  Through original poetry, traditional and non-traditional spirituals, creative nonfiction, and memoirs about experiences during visits to West African slave prisons and growing up in Gullah communities, Daise's presentation will bring cultural and historical information vibrantly alive. The program is free with regular admission to the gardens. A lunch special featuring a Gullah menu for $8.95 will be served in the Pavilion Restaurant.
