Annual Programs
“Dirt & Worms” and “Gullah Gullah Days”, our two annual curriculum-based programs for Georgetown and Horry County school students, are offered free-of-charge through sponsorships:
“Dirt & Worms” introduces third and fourth graders to the soils and soil components of our area. The outdoor class will visit two Brookgreen habitats. The inside class will learn about one of the decomposers--the earthworm--through observing and making earthworm terrariums that will be taken back to the school classroom. All supplies will be furnished. The program is funded by SERVPRO.
Program Dates: October 4-8, 11-13, 15, and 25-29, 2010
Program Times: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Registration: On a first-come, first-served basis, beginning September 7, 2010

“Gullah Gullah Days” offers third graders educational activities about Gullah culture. Students will learn about Gullah history, heritage, and lore through walking along “The Lowcountry Trail”, visiting the Map Room that shows an aerial view of Georgetown County’s abandoned rice fields, observing a rice trunk model, eating cultural snacks, and participating in a make-and-take activity. The program is funded by the Falk-Griffin Foundation.
