Brookgreen Gardens’  2008 Calendar of Exhibitions and Festivals

Murrells Inlet, SC-  Brookgreen Gardens is pleased to announce the 2008 schedule of special events, festivals, and sculpture exhibitions.

 

Late February-Early March - Daffodil Days

Daffodil Days, makes an unprecedented visual display before the peak spring blooming season and provides another reason to visit Brookgreen Gardens in the winter! Several hundred thousand daffodils and other spring flowers provides vistas of color from late winter until early spring. Free with garden admission.

 

April

Diggin it! And Plantacular Sale- April 5 & 6- - spring garden festival with horticulture seminars and a gigantic plant sale! Free with garden admission.

 

Open Late Til 8 p.m.; April 1 – 30

After a day on the golf course or on the beach, you can still see all the incredible beauty of Brookgreen's amazing azaleas, dogwoods and other spring flowers when Brookgreen remains open until 8 pm, in the month of April. During this time, the gardens are at their peak and offer a breathtaking display of color! Gift shop and food service available.

 

May

Memorial Day weekend- Red, White & Blue: Saturday, Sunday, Monday: May 24, 25 & 26 In honor of Memorial Day, Brookgreen will place flag decorations at the war memorials and graves of veterans’ who are buried on the grounds. Free with garden admission.

 

June

Artists Under the Arcade- Saturday, June 7

Not an ordinary craft fair! Brookgreen invites selected artists to sell their works, meet with visitors and give demonstrations during this one day festival.

Cool Summer Evenings- Wednesdays through Fridays - June 18 through Aug. 15

Enjoy live entertainment and evening cruises down the creeks in the cool of the summer evenings. Gift shop and food service are available.

Harvest Home Weekend: Saturday and Sunday, October 18 & 19

Join us for a fun filled weekend with the ever-popular scarecrow building contest, pumpkin painting, live entertainment and more! The two-day event is from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and is free with regular admission to the gardens.

 

December

Nights of a Thousand Candles –5 & 6; 12 & 13, 18, 19 & 20 (3pm – 10pm)

Brookgreen's most popular annual event has become a holiday tradition! Thousands of lights sparkle from Live Oak trees and illuminate garden paths as musicians perform, carolers sing and visitors experience the enchantment that only Nights of a Thousand Candles brings.

 

2008 Sculpture Exhibitions - all are free with admission to the gardens.

 

January 12- March 9 - in the Jennewein Gallery- Pooches and Purebreds: Canine Images in Sculpture and in the Noble Gallery- Figurative Felines: The Sculptured Cat

 

March 22-June 15 in the Jennewein Gallery - Good Things Come in Small Packages: Medallic and Relief Sculpture  and in the Noble Gallery - The Bronze Zoo: Anna Hyatt Huntington and Exotic Animals

 

June 28-August 24 – in the Jennewein and Noble Galleries - National Sculpture Society 75th Annual Awards Exhibition

 

September 6-November 2 - in the Jennewein Gallery - Flights of Fantasy: The Artistic Bird and in the Noble Gallery- Hoof Beats and Heroes: The Horse in Art

Both of these exhibits are in conjunction with the SC Watermedia Society’s 31st  Annual Exhibition and will feature paintings and sculpture.

 

Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark and non-profit organization, is located on U.S. 17 between Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island, South Carolina, and is open to the public daily.
